The following requirements for a secure e-scooter lock can be derived from these dangers:

It must be long and flexible to connect the e-scooter to any solid object .
It has to be narrow and flexible in order to wind its way through the narrow, closed components.
It must be secure, i.e. made of robust, high-quality, carefully installed materials with a minimum diameter of 13 mm to withstand attempts to break it open.
At best, it consists of several locks.
At best, it is integrated into the frame.

As a rule of thumb, you should spend 10% of the purchase price of your e-scooter on a secure lock.

*If these locks have a high security level, they are usually not narrow and flexible enough to fit through.

These locks only offer moderate theft protection

The brake disk lock turns out to be merely an immobilizer in the e-scooter lock comparison. It only blocks the tire and should therefore not be used as an electric scooter lock on its own, but simply as an additional security measure.

The folding lock and the handcuff lock for e-scooters form the center. The folding segments may be too wide and rigid to wind through closed frame parts. This rigidity prevents the lock from being fixed close to the frame, which in turn provides more scope for attacks with cutting tools. The same applies to the chain of handcuff locks, which is more flexible, but can also rattle annoyingly and cause paint scratches.

Cable and chain locks in combination with a U-lock are often too thick to fit through the closed frame parts. Their weight often reduces comfort when riding and transporting. Only rarely are all components fully encased, making them less paint-friendly and weather-resistant. Similar to the handcuff lock, these models can also rattle annoyingly.
