More than just a beautiful cover: patented high-end technology in the tex–lock
In contrast to other textile bike locks, there is much more under the surface of the tex–lock . It is not just a lock with a pretty cover, but a patented hybrid construction made of textile fibers and metal that offers far more than just an attractive appearance.
This blog post shows the ingenious design of the tex–lock cable and how it differs structurally from other bicycle chain locks with a textile cover.
More appearance than protection: The colorful cover of conventional bicycle chain locks with textile cover
Many manufacturers are now demonstrating that bicycle chain locks can be made to look attractive with the help of an attractive and visually appealing textile cover. For example, bright splashes of color in the form of wrapped chain locks on bicycles are increasingly catching the eye. Underneath the textile cover is the conventional construction: chains of different thicknesses made of hardened steel.
In contrast to tex–lock, this coating is simply put over the chain as a pretty cover. It even works reasonably well as paint protection for a while, but over time the single-layer textile mesh wears out due to constant mechanical stress. Sooner or later, the dreaded scratches will appear on the exposed areas of the bike's paintwork and the rattling will be annoying when riding (and promote further wear of the textile fibers).
So at first glance, these bike locks are stylish and, in addition to providing practical theft protection, they also provide temporary "paint protection", but they are not a textile-based bike lock based on the tex–lock principle.
Ingenious hybrid design: no one can fool a tex–lock so quickly
In contrast, the textile fibers of the tex–lock are not superficial cosmetics, but a functional component of the overall construction. The high-tech fibers used embed the hardened steel chain and form a composite. The result is a robust and flexible textile lock that does not rattle when riding and is lighter than many comparable locks of the same security class. The textile surface also gives the tex–lock not only a stylish design, but also an exceptionally soft, supple feel.
Although look and feel are a positive side effect that makes the world of bikes and locks more beautiful and generates enthusiasm among many people, they are not the primary purpose of the patented multi-layer mesh.
